Being a Garfield (fat & lazy)
January 12, 2009 at 10:35 pm | In baby AH, breastfeeding, sleeping | 2 CommentsI have been lazy.
The freezers are full with my frozen EBM and at last stock take (last week), some have even expired (or almost). Knowing that I have plenty, I have been a bit lazy. This morning I was too lazy to pump that my mid-morning I was dying to pump. For the past few nights, I have been giving AH EBM and left him in his cot in our room. He has been a good boy and did not complain everytime I leave him in his cot to sleep. Once, he even asked my MIL to switch off the lights so he could go to sleep!
I am not pumping enough and neither am I direct feeding him enough. I need to clean up my act! Maybe it’s because Aunt Flo is here that I felt I deserve to rest for a bit. Alasan tah banar. Hehe.
Oh, which reminds me. Mid-cycle, I have been experiencing cramps (similar to uterus contractions after birth) when feeding or pumping. I have been getting these for the past 3 months, I think. I’ve been meaning to go an see a gynae or a tukang urut but have not gotten around to do it :S I read in a forum that this lady had it before but there were no explanations for it. So, I was wondering if any of you have had it before?
I’m off to bed now. Niteeee!
Milk Production Index
January 5, 2009 at 10:04 pm | In breastfeeding | 7 CommentsFew weeks ago I came across this site on Milk Production Index and it definitely made me chuckle!
Breastfeeding mothers often refer to themselves as the milk factory (please note that it is okay for a breastfeeding mother to call themselves this but it is definitely not okay for you to refer to a breastfeeding stranger so) and when you are chatting with other breastfeeding mothers, you conversation most of the time revolve around whether your supply is enough for your baby.
Most breastfeeding mothers will probably be able to relate to Suzette’s post then!
So what is Milk Production Index? Basically it is a breastfeeding mother’s ‘yield’ per hour.
How do you calculate it? Take the total of your ‘production’ in oz between your last feeding session and your last pumping session, and divide it by the total number of hours during the ‘production’. For me, now, it would be 6am, 11.30am and 6pm pumping session (12 hrs) giving a total production of 24oz, which would mean my MPI is 2oz. Prior to introducing solids, my MPI was as high as 2.5oz on my good days but on average it was 2-2.2oz, I think.
Well, this is not an official index though. Hehe. But I suppose it can help, especially for a working mother, who wants to match their supply with their baby’s demand. And as Suzette suggested, the same calculation can be used for baby’s demand- Milk Demand Index. Hehehe.
For AH, his MDI now is about 1.0 oz – 1.33 oz, which basically means I’m now producing more than AH demands, Alhamdullilah.
Please do take this lightly
Hehe. Before this, I just used the bottles measurement. How many bottles of 4oz I ‘produced’ in a period vs. how many bottles of 4oz AH takes in the same period of time
Bye-Bye 2008, Hello 2009!
January 1, 2009 at 8:19 pm | In baby AH, shopping | 3 CommentsFor the past few weeks, I have been trying to compile my resolutions list and when I heard HM’s speech for Ma’al Hijrah to not let resolutions just be resolutions, but to actually act on it, I realised I have to stop putting ‘losing weight’ as my number one resolution again.
So, my 2009 resolution is to be a better person (wife, mother, daughter, friend, colleague & staff) and to be more positive (including blocking out all sorts of negativities).
In place of a long resolutions list, I have, instead, put together a wishlist! Har har har. This will be easier to achieve, right? Especially since I received a text this morning that the bags on my wishlist will be purchased today by my purse fairy. Wuu-huu! And and, I have 1 bag in the shopping cart, ready to be checked out once I have truly decided. Heeeeee! All the daily monitoring of exchange rates on Bloomberg is going to pay off *grins*.
Here’s Mas AH wishing you a very Happy New Year 1430 & 2009 and sending plenty of love, peace, health and wealth your way!
