Small Steps for AH

…giant leap for excited mummy!

My not-so little boy has taken more than just a few steps! On Saturday night, he was holding a balloon and I suppose he must’ve thought he was holding on to someone’s hand! Since then, he is unstoppable! When he fell, he would stand up and continued walking! Aaah. he is growing up too fast!

I suppose I can say AH is taking after me (mau jua! LOL.) since he is only walking after turning 1. Hehe. Apparently I didn’t start walking until I was 1 plus whilst the husband started walking when he was 11 months old. No wonder he always say that I walk too slow. Guess now I have AH with me! Hee-hee! Until he starts running, I suppose! Eeeeks!

AH now knows where he wants to go and will drag anyone with him. He knows the way to his uncles and aunts’ room as well as his grandparents’ room.

The photo above was taken yesterday when he was playing outside in the afternoon. He must’ve had fun because he only woke up once last night, looking for us and crawled out of his cot by himself.

Ooh. Over the weekend I have been busy making a dowry book for one of my girlfriends, who are getting engaged pretty soon. It is my first commissioned job and I am glad she likes it (although not the village elders but more on the content than the actually book, I think). And apparently, I am going to do another one for another girlfriend’s engagement in January! Jadikah Ellez? Hehehehehehe.

Anyhoos, Have a Good Week Y’all!!

p.s. Congratulations Len & Hil on your wedding yesterday. You both looked gorgeous!! (I didnt bring my digicam but I’m sure it will be uploaded on fb and I will need to get a copy of my mum’s digicam too. Hee-hee!)

And oh, the husband has uploaded some photos from his recent holiday (and my work trip. hahaha.). I’m too lazy to process my photos and upload them on fb for now.

AH Turns One Today!

I am knackered to the bone. It has been a day well-spent!

Thanks to everyone who texted and left messages/ comments on my fb wall wishing my no-longer-a-baby happy birthday and also to my little and not-so-little cousins for doing the little ’surprise party’ for AH at Nini’s place, including the great (and I’m using that word loosely. hahaha. nadawah. lurveee) performances!

I have tons of photos from today (from the moment he woke up till when he fell asleep on his playmat) but I suppose it will be awhile till I post them. Anyhoos, good night all! Have a good weekend. And oh, AH doesnt mind more presents. Har har har. And to the boys & girls, AH is definitely looking forward to par-tay with you guys :p  He has prepared a wishlist, which includes an LV bag for mummy! Muahahahahaha.

Congratulations Vehl & Zura!

AH has been climbing over the back of our sofa every chance he gets. He has also climbed over his cot (again! despite lowering it!) when the rail is lowered. He is standing up every chance he gets (we noticed he would hit the ’support’ few times to test the stability before supporting himself on it) and if anyone supports him, he would rather walk than crawl. If we let him crawl, he crawls real fast that we have to crawl with him or be on our toes all the time.

My SIL said not to get a maid if I want to lose weight faster. Haha.

So yes, besides work and family commitments, AH has been keeping me busy. Hope you all had a good weekend- it’s Monday again tomorrow! Two weeks before I have to leave my boys again :(

Turning 8!

July 26, 2008 at 5:43 pm | In development, feeding solids | Leave a Comment

..months pulang tu saja. Hehehe.

AH will be turning 8 months tomorrow and the husband said that we should stop buying him a cake so as not to spoil him. Har har har. Not that AH understands (or does he?) but I guess I should stop from eating good cake every month, huh? :p

Last night AH did what he had been doing for the past week, again! He got out of his cot into our bed, again. Crawled over my body (and face!) to go and lie down in his bapa’s arms! Then, he decided he wanted me and instead of turning his head to me, he crawled over my body and made himself comfortable under my right armpit. Hahaha. Cali banar ya ani but it is also worrying as it would mean that pillows around him when he’s on our bed would not be sufficient!

On top of that, he has now enjoyed playing under the chairs or tables! We let him but we just had to make sure he doesn’t bump his head or anything. Plus, after changing his diapers, he would try to climb on his baby box and last night, tried to stand up whilst finding support on the baby box! Erkkk. He is growing up, lah! No more letting him lie down and just roll over once with toys in his hand. It is only a matter of time before he builds a fort using boxes. Oh, have I mentioned that he wants to be put in baskets too? Thats my AH!

On the feeding side, the paed has asked me to introduce animal proteins when he turns 8 months. So far he has enjoyed porridge, carrot, sweet potatotes, potatoes, brocolli, pears. bananas and Farleys’ biscuits. I almost introduced to him salmon 2 nights ago before finding out that introducing fish is preferred at 10 months. So, mummynya saja makan the grilled salmon :p

Now that he is turning 8 months, I am due to introduce to him the good ol’ meat, chicken and probably some egg yolk. Of course, more greens and more fruits too! Again, I have to use the 3-days (or 4, whichever you like.. Some even used 7-days) rule to see the effect of the food on AH. So, hopefully, no one gives him any other food besides what he is supposed to eat so I know which food has affected AH, if any.

One thing I am going to adamant about is giving him anything to drink besides BM or water. I will introduce him juice in due course but now, I want him to enjoy water and BM as much as possible first. He can pick up mummy and bapa’s sweet tooth when he is older- not that he has any teeth yet! I know right??? All this time I thought he was teething, I haven’t seen a single white bud yet! Haha. All the worry about my nips being bitten since he was 4 months old, sampai ani pun alum nampak. Hehehe. Nevermindlah, I am supposed to enjoy before kena gigit. Hehehehe.

Anyways, I’m off to watch SATC with my girls tonight (thanks husband for letting me :p). Have a good weekend y’all! :)

7 Months

June 27, 2008 at 9:27 pm | In baby AH, development, motherhood, scrappping | 5 Comments

Alhamdullilah, Baby AH turns 7 months today. However, he has picked up a temperature and a bit of sniffles and coughs.

This brought back my conversation with a cousin-in-law recently when she told me she panicked when her little girl fell sick, thinking that BF babies never get sick. Then I read a blog recently, where someone commented that ALL babies get sick to build their anti-bodies. FM babies, get sick relatively more, because they supposedly have less anti-bodies.

It’s all relative. Hehe.

Ooh, Baby AH is still tooth-less! After all the hoo-haa (by his mummy, of course!) thinking he was teething because he was fussy and using everything (and I mean EVERYTHING!) as a teether, we still can’t see any white buds!

Someone recently said to me not to be too iski about baby AH having his teeth, crawl and walk. LOL. Now that his ‘gusi mengarasi’, I am already wincing in pain when he feeds, imagine when there’s teeth!

Until today, the way baby AH ‘moved’, was by rolling & rolling. However, he managed to ‘crawl’ (more like beringsut! hehe.) backwards before hitting the table. Heehee.

He also tried to sit up when he woke up from his nap but only managed halfway before he decided to to just rollover (I bet he was thinking, lagi sanang!). No rush, my love! Although it seems like mummy wants you to do everything before realising (okay fine, before being reminded) that you’re only a baby and you will do everything, insya Allah, in time. (*whispers to baby AH* bapa has said no to baby walkers until you crawl! and i can’t possibly buy & hide it, can i? so i guess that has to wait. hehe.)

Baby AH is now one playful baby! He likes to play hide & seek, where I usually hide behind a book, magazine or the laptop and he tries to guess from which side I will ‘appear’. When baby AH’s feet are tickled, he will also giggle endlessly! He likes to call out to people, especially family members, now, especially his grandparents or mummy or bapa, to be carried. Hisfavourite ’saying’ now is ‘mamamamamamama’. I knew I should’ve insisted to be called mama when i read that babies’ first word tends to be ‘ma’. Hehehehe.

Oh, baby AH doesn’t like to eat brocolli! I guess what I was told-’to feed your baby food that will seem edible to you’- is right. Haha. When I tried to puree the brocolli, my face wrinkled at the thought of having to eat it. I will give asparagus this weekend, okay? I like asparagus, especially if it wrapped with salmon. Haha. I will insist on the veggies. Hehehe.

Anyhoos, Happy 7 months, Baby AH! This post is not only a list of what you are like when you’re 7 months old but also as a reminder to mummy when I finally get around to scrap your monthly photos! Hehehehe.

Love you!

What a week!

May 19, 2008 at 6:56 am | In baby AH, breastfeeding, development, travelling | 3 Comments

It has definitely been a busy week, with birthdays (Bushu, Fez, Hudiya, Ina, Aini, Raimi and Carol- did I miss anyone?) and engagements (okay, only one- Congratulations Ay!), being sick (took a day off mid-week) and lots & lots of work.

Plus, I have been stocking up on my EBMs furiously to make sure I have enough for my trip and at last count, insya Allah, baby AH will have enough. This also meant that I took baby AH with me everywhere. To the bank, grocery shopping, late night engagement party (Ay, special appearance tu. Only for his aunt Ayay. hehehe.) and to just about anywhere I have to go, except for work obviously.

Baby AH, on the other hand, has been feeding less and less. On Saturday, he only had 3 bottles (i.e. 12oz) whilst I was at work. He’s waking up more at night now too. I was told that baby AH is probaby hungry for food and not milk.

Well, I tried giving him EBM by using his weaning utensils (learned from Hafiy’s Mami. hehe.) but he was more interested in holding the spoon and feeding himself but obviously, the milk spilled.

Soon my darling, soon.

I am now planning to get better as I have been attacked by the flu and sexy voice (ie. sore throat) again. I also need to wrap up a lot of other things. Uwaaaa.

Have a good Monday y’all!

p.s. Adam’s mum- I emailed you with my contact number last week. Haven’t heard from you. Let me know, yeah. I’ll be away again this weekend and next week.

Teething

May 2, 2008 at 10:07 pm | In baby AH, baby products, development | 7 Comments

We think the little one is teething.

Symptoms of teething as the New Parents Guide stated are:

1. Irritability- Baby AH is getting a little bit more fussy than before. He cries more and just get irritated oh-so-easily. However, he usually feels much better if we give him something (to put in his mouth!) or make him stand, so he thinks he’s taller than everyone else. The latter usually makes him smile! :)

2. Drooling- Baby AH drools a lot since birth. The elders like to say that I didn’t get to satisfy my cravings whilst pregnant. However, he now drools a whole lot more that he gets more rashes, which are kinda eczema-like (maybe its eczema, I don’t know).

3. Coughing- He’s not coughing but he gags a lot because we try to force him to feed. Hehe. He just won’t feed! Usually he drinks 5-6 (sometimes 7) bottles of 4ozs whilst I was at work. Now he only drinks 3-4 bottles. In the evening he is nursing less too.

4. Chin Rash- lots of drooling = rashes!

5. Biting & Gnawing- anything and everything that is put in his hands goes straight to his mouth. Last night it looked like he wanted to tear apart the teether. Poor Baby AH!

6. Cheek Rubbing and Ear Pulling- Not so much cheek rubbing but Baby AH always pulls his ear when he wants to sleep, so, I can’t really tell :S

7. Diarrhea- Emm. Not really. He hasn’t been feeding a lot so he is poo-ing less too. Wait, actually he poo-ed twice today. Not yesterday though. Hehe.

8. Low-grade Fever- Almost everytime when Baby AH has a little fever, he gets spots on his body, which they usually say that the food I ate was ‘panas’. This was the same recently. He was feeling a litle bit feverish and the next day he had spots again. Now the fever is gone and the spots are half gone.

9. Not Sleeping Well- defnitely! He only takes like 2-3 half an hour naps during the day and wakes up 2-3 times more now.

10. Cold-like Symptoms- emm not really on this one, which they say could be a result of when the baby puts his hand in his mouth a lot.

At the moment, I can’t live without this balm to help soothe baby AH’s drooling rashes but also the mozzy bites he’s been getting!

Look!

I finally went to MPC to get it yesterday. I have not have time to play with it yet. Plus I need to get a voltage converter, which I initially wanted to get it off ebay but then the husband said we will get it from Hua Ho on Friday. Semua jua kan ku ebay ah. Hehehe. But this is my first purchase off ebay and to be honest, I was a tad bit worried I wouldn’t get it.

The seller shipped it off on 31st March and it arrived at MPC on 21st (because that was the date stamped on the yellow card). I don’t know when it arrived at home but when I arrived on 27th, the card was already there.

Nevertheless, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. Somehow, the MPC managed to ‘misplace’ my box and kept on saying that someone might have taken it for me. I had to wait for a good 30 minutes for it. They tried to send me home (twice!) but I stood my ground and said they better look for it. Dangki kali ah meliat semua orang dapat their parcels, I wasn’t going to leave empty-handed! Hehe. I also said it was urgent. Oh, they also made me go through their register just in case I knew someone in there who might have taken my box already (majal kan? hehe).

Anyhoos, I am glad I have received it and am really looking forward to use it! :)

On Baby AH’s front, we think he has started teething. He has excessive saliva, not only puts things in his mouth (which he likes to do since forever!) but is biting really hard during nursing, especially towards the end. He is also a bit fussy, especially during sleeping and napping times and is not really feeding :(

Suffice to say, mummy didn’t get a lot of sleep last night.

If he is really teething, my little boy is growin up *sob*sob*.

Oh, I’m thinking of starting to wean him soon too. Perhaps next weekend when he is 51/2 months. That gives me a week to spend time, eating, with him. I would love to give him his first solids when he turns 6 months but I think I rather witness his first solids. Har har har. Will get clearance from the doctor next week just for my peace of mind :)

I hope you all are doing great. I know my posts have mostly been rushed. I have a lot to ask and share with you all. Insya Allah, will try to do those posts soon.

How do you put a baby on a diet?

April 8, 2008 at 6:52 am | In baby AH, breastfeeding, development, feeding | 6 Comments

Lately, I’ve been getting a lot of comments on how heavy Baby AH is or he could be overweight.

It then made me wonder- how do one put their baby on a diet, especially if he is not on solids yet and is in full breastmilk?

Don’t get me wrong, I am not going to put Baby AH on a diet. Although, Mummy needs to go on one. Haha.

So, assuming if the baby has not crawled or walk…

- if a baby is on formula, do you change their formula?

- if a baby is on solids, do you change the food that you give or reduce the amount of food that you give?

Baby AH’s 3 months (3 1/2 when he went) check he was 7.5kg. I have a strong feeling he is now more than 8kg (time to change the size of his pampers to L????). His last check-up the nurse didn’t make any comments about his weight though, so I’m guessing his weight is still okay.

But yeah, what if it wasn’t? What if a baby is overweight, what will they make you do?

I won’t be around for Baby AH’s next check up, which was initially next week but since he’s coming with me, we wanted to to take him this week. However, his Nini said better not as he will be travelling and he is up for his last DPT shot.

…which reminds me, I have to call the clinic and re-schedule before they come knocking on our door and accuse me of being an irresponsible mother. haha. kidding. but yes, they did knock on our door and asked why we missed Baby AH’s last appointment. (my fault! i forgot :p)

Co-sleeping and Cot sleeping.

March 23, 2008 at 11:58 am | In AH's mummy, baby AH, baby products, breastfeeding, development, sleeping, working mother | Leave a Comment

The little one is putting everything in his mouth! Erk.

I started noticing it the other day when he pinched my hand and brought it up to his mouth. Then last night, during dinner, he put his hand in his mouth and his hand was wet with his saliva. This morning during breakfast, I put him in his stroller, placing the stroller next to my chair. I handed him his toy and the next thing we knew, he had it in his mouth. LOL. When we took the toy away from him he put his hand in his mouth instead! Haha.

Before Baby AH was born, I said to myself that he shall be a cot sleeping baby and never a co-sleeping baby. I was pretty adamant at making sure that will happen even after talking to my friends who kept on saying that co-sleeping is the best. During confinement and before I started working, we worked hard in making sure that Baby AH sleeps in his cot. I would feed him sitting down in the middle of the night and then put him back to his cot when he was asleep- unless he was fussy, in which he would sleep on me.

When I started working, I realised that the time from when I came home to the time we sleep were not enough. I wanted Baby AH to be next to me at all times! I, then, slowly tried feeding him whilst lying down. Baby AH was also then big enough to scream and bring the house down if he was uncomfortable. Also, I needed the sleep. Haha. So, whilst baby AH was feeding with his eyes close, mummy had her eyes close too. Huhuhuhu.

Now, I am paying the price. Har har har. Baby AH is slowly refusing to sleep in his cot. When both of us had fall asleep, the husband would carry him and move him to his cot. At times, Baby AH would wake up and cry. Other times, he would continue to sleep until his next feed. Currently, as I feed him to sleep, I would have his pillow with me and then when he has been moved back to his cot, I would put his pillow back in the cot. I read this somewhere so, I’m hoping it will work in trying to get him back to his cot.

Oh, after his feed, I am usually too lazy to move him back to his cot so he would usually end up sleeping with me until I have to wake up for work. Hehehehehehe.

p.s. I think the Milkmaid Tea is working. Yesterday at work, I managed to increase my EBM. Before fenugreek supplements, I could only express 12 oz from 2 sessions whilst at work. After taking the supplements, it increased to 16 – 18oz. Yesterday, Alhamdullilah, I was able to express 20-21oz whilst I was at work :) Hmm, definitely a moo-moo! Haha. Am still looking at getting an electric pump. Hehe. Sangal tangan.

Have a good Sunday y’all!
